For 2017, Moniker Art Fair has undergone an exciting evolution, tripling in size to accommodate 40 gallery stands, a young galleries initiative, a benefit auction, an industry conference, a curated film programme, a VIP programme and a New York style pizza restaurant.
While Moniker has previously venue-shared with The Other Art Fair, this October they moved to a new floor of the Old Truman Brewery as they boldly re-instate their dominance on the East End arts hub, focusing this year on the origins of urban art.
Few art forms rely on collectives and collaborations as much as urban art; born in the dust of the locomotive age as far back as 1914, it has evolved to see modern-day monikers spring up on walls worldwide, shifting in style and message as international artists meet and influence each other. Just over a century later, Moniker Art Fair remembers where it all began, taking visitors on a journey from the root of the burgeoning international street art scene and its importance today.
Moniker’s eighth edition titled ‘Transient Tales’ is dedicating more than 9,000-square-foot of space to immersive art installations. Upon entering visitors discover an installation by documentarian, photographer and film editor Bill Daniel featuring a train track and a tunnel.
Moniker welcomes the best of contemporary and urban art galleries from across the world, showcasing artists working beyond norms and conventions. The UK is represented by the likes of returning exhibitors Stolen Space, RISE, Jealous Gallery and Curious Duke Gallery as well as debuts from Well Hung Gallery and BleachBox Gallery. Meanwhile, international galleries debuting include Thinkspace Gallery from California, Station16 Gallery from Montreal and Gallery Itinerrance from France.
In parallel Moniker also gives the opportunity to showcase younger galleries like UK-Art from Japan, Jewel Goodby Contemporary and 1963 Gallery from the UK.
A special section has been dedicated to installations by Ian Kualii and large photographs by Alex Fakso to name a few.
In terms of results, Moniker reports record-breaking sales figures from its opening night, having sold around £300,000 of art on its preview day. The Californian Thinkspace Gallery, who had eight booths and three artist solo shows sold out two solo shows by artists Audrey Kawasaki and Kevin Peterson over £100,000 worth of sales in the first five hours.
The Art Conference, Talks & Short Film Programme featured films by Lek & Sowat, and talks by Vermibus.

Next step will be New York, as Director Tina Ziegler announced earlier that Moniker New York will have its inaugural edition at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn from May 3 to 6 2018, to coincide with Frieze New York, and she hopes the art fair will continue to grow over the next five years.

During a week, all the art world gathers in London, from collectors, curators, galleries and artists. The Truman Brewery building in Eats London is hosting 3 satellite Fairs to the infamous Frieze Art Fair.
Moniker Art Fair, now in its seventh year, has established itself as a key satellite event of London Art Week, showcasing emerging contemporary urban talent. Visitors engaged with numerous installations throughout the building, including an 18-metre digital ‘playground’ created by Maser, a virtual reality Oculus Rift immersive experience by Jose Montemayor as well as workshops and conferences by TAC. Visitors could watch artist Max Zorn create spontaneous tape art on Plexiglas, and live printing sessions at Jealous Gallery.
The Hepatitis C Trust’s Art on a Postcard is back for its second year at Moniker with postcards and customised car bonnets. The Postcard Lottery was a huge hit giving visitors the chance to own an original artwork by one of the many world renowned artists involved from the likes of Paul Insect, Pure Evil, Eelus, Harland Miller, Peter Blake, Brad Downey and more.
The Other Art Fair continues to inspire art lovers with a selection of 130 artists presenting directly their artworks like neon sculptures by Mark Beattie. In parallel the fair also showcased workshops, talks and children’s activities.

Celebrating its sixth year anniversary the Moniker Art Fair returned to the Truman Brewery in East London from 15-18 October 2015.
Featuring twenty national and international galleries with contemporary and urban artists, the Moniker Art Fair also introduced Bitcoin through the Renaissance is Now installation with Ben Eine and Schoony. UK stencil artist Nick Walker canvasses were presented in an immersive dining space with Lauren Baker chandeliers for The Art of Patrón Cocktail Cantina.
Supporting the Hepatitius C Trust, Art on a Postcard showcased two hundred postcard size artworks from renowned artists priced at £50 through a lottery raffle including Gilbert& George, Harland Miller and more.
Visitors could also enjoy some live performances like Mark Powell biro drawings or French graffiti artist Bom.K from the DMV crew painting live while MYA Gallery was presenting his UK solo show.
A crucified Star Wars trooper by RYCA / Ryan Callanan (Tag Fine Arts, UK) overlooked the space while a three dimensional portrait by Matt Small (34 Fine Arts) greeted the visitors. Monochrome artworks by French artist WK Interact (Kallenbach Gallery, NL) were also exhibited.
Drawings by Betz/ Etam Cru were also on show with MyFinBec, while London Westbank presented many artists like Inkie. Stencil godfather Blek Le Rat was featured at 44309 Street//Art Gallery. Prints by Hush and Japanese contemporary artists like Chiho Aoshima and Takashi Murakami were presented by Kumi Contemporary.

Moniker Art Fair returns for its fourth year to London, focusing on contemporary art and urban culture. This year Moniker is sharing its venue with The Other Art Fair , leading artist led Fair, at the iconic Old Truman Brewery in East London.

For the project spaces, David Shillinglaw invites viewers into his studio “Off Keys”, while Jo Peel recreated a side street of London. Zeus and The London Police built a playful city installation complete with motorway and dogs. Beejoir and the SOS crew installed a military bunker full of goodies. For the second year running in London, the Moniker Art Fair has opened yesterday at Village Underground. Focussing on street art, the participating galleries this year include Andenken Gallery, LeBasse Projects, Scream, Shea & Ziegler and Stolenspace.
In parallel to gallery booths, the fair showcases project spaces for individual artists: Dabs and Myla., Beejoir, Matt Small, Peeta, Best Ever, Marco Grassi.
The program features many print releases, artist talks, live painting sessions on the external walls the surrounding the venue as well as street art tours with our friend Hooked Blog.
