Paris: French Fairs FIAC and Slick

FIAC PARIS 2013

France contemporary art fair, the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) celebrated its 40th edition this year at the Grand Palais in Paris. Featuring 184 exhibitors from 25 countries, the fair continues to hold a strong French presence with 30 % of the exhibitors. Some of the highlights include the Iron Tree from Ai Weiwei, Dan Colen at the Gagosian, Yue Minjun at Daniel Templon, a giant Kaws at Galerie Perrotin, and a wrecked Ferrari by Bertrand Lavier.

In parallel to the FIAC, on the Banks of the Seine, SLICK Art Fair to bring together the vitality of 50 younger galleries and talents. Some pics below.

Following our recent coverage ( see here) on the artists project spaces  at Moniker Art Fair , we now focus on the participating galleries: Andenken Gallery, artAZ, Coates and Scarry, Future Tense, Hang-Up Gallery, Imitate Modern, Jealous Gallery, Kallenbach Gallery, London Westbank Gallery, Look For Art, Moniker Projects, Scream Editions, Souled Out Studios, St. Art gallery, StolenSpace, and TAG Fine Arts.

From pop-surrealism paintings, urban art to sculptures and installations, Moniker has definitively stepped up during the busy London Art week.

Frieze Art Fair returns to London from 17 to 20 October 2013 showcasing 152 galleries from around the world. Highlights this year include the Gagosian Gallery, displaying five large scale works by pop artist Jeff Koons, from his stainless steel inflatable sculptures series to his Sacred Heart sculpture estimated to $2 billion.

At the Stephen Friedman Gallery booth, viewers can enjoy the ultimate rebirthing experience by interacting with a giant sculptural self portrait of American artist Jennifer Rubell by climbing into a cavity made in her pregnant stomach. Lisson Gallery is focusing on veteran minimalist Dan Graham’s spiraled plexiglas pavilion, which visitors can enter and be temporarily taken away from the crowd whilst still in full view. Gavin Brown has put in some fun with a series of humanoid traffic cone sculptures by Robb Pruitt.

Galerie Perrotin is displaying a golden sculpture, Naked self portrait with POM, by Takashi Murakami while numerous paintings and sculptures by Yoshimoto Nara can be seen at Pace Gallery and Blum & PoeAnd lastly, a series of photographs by Ryan McGinley, titled Me & My Friends is featured at the Team Gallery booth.

London: Moniker Art Fair – Project spaces

Moniker Art Fair 2013

Moniker Art Fair returns for its fourth year to London, focusing on contemporary art and urban culture. This year Moniker is sharing its venue with  The Other Art Fair , leading artist led Fair, at the iconic Old Truman Brewery in East London.

Moniker features artist project spaces, international galleries, and a series of activities, from artists book launch, talks and printing sessions. See the full programme here.

For the project spaces, David Shillinglaw invites viewers into his studio “Off Keys”, while Jo Peel recreated a side street of London. Zeus and The London Police built a playful city installation complete with motorway and dogs.  Beejoir and the SOS crew installed a military bunker full of goodies.  Stay tuned for the rest of our coverage on Moniker

London: Strarta Art Fair

STRARTA ART FAIR

STRARTA is a new Art Fair located at the Saatchi Gallery. Featuring 30 international galleries, the artwork on show includes modern paintings, drawings, limited edition prints, photography, sculptures and multi-media works ranging from £2,000 to well over £250,000.
