Toulouse: David Shrigley @ ‘Printemps de Septembre’ Festival

The Printemps de Septembre (Spring in September) returns this year after a three year hiatus to Toulouse in Southern France. The festival, which was recently redefined as a Biennal by founder Marie-Thérèse Perrin, takes place throughout the city with a programme of exhibitions, concerts, screenings and performances.

Fresh from his recent inauguration of the ‘Really Good’ sculpture on the 4th Plinth in Trafalgar Square in London, British artist and Turner Prize nominee David Shrigley has designed and manufactured all the elements to organise a music festival in partnership with the Higher Institute of Arts in Toulouse: the instruments, stage setting and rehearsal studio, posters and even the lyrics of songs, where bands can register and play.
The installation is called ‘ David Shrigley – Problem in Toulouse’.

The display is featured in the Palais des Arts school , as well as a series of David Shrigley’s distinctive black and white quick-witted drawings and hand-rendered texts with satirical comments on everyday situations.

Paris: 100Taur – Monsters in my closet

French Lowbrow artist 100TAUR ( see our studio visit here) just opened his latest solo show ‘Monsters in my closet‘ at Artoyz gallery in Paris. The exhibition features a comprehensive body of work, from drawings, engraving, mixed media paintings to taxidermy sculptures. In parallel 100TAUR created a large site specific installation with a boat and hybrid creatures.

100TAUR’s fantastic world is full of happy monsters, multi-eyed slugs and hybrid creatures that seems to be floating and dancing within an oniric universe, while some pop classics like Sponge Bob are reinterpreted with his own personal touch.

Studio Visit: 100TAUR (Toulouse)

Following his group shows in the US and recent installation at the Toulouse Museum (FR), we visited the cabinet of curiosities of Low Brow French artist 100taur as he prepares for his upcoming solo show ‘Monsters in my closet’ at the Artoyz gallery in Paris.

100taur is a multidisciplinary artist, whose creativity expands from graffiti, paintings, drawings, engraving to sculpture, installations and taxidermy. His sources of inspiration come from Greek mythology, hybrid creatures like Chiron, known for his kindness, knowledge and skills with medicine, but also Japanese culture and sci-fi and horror films. Passionate by the natural world, 100taur also studies and breeds insects that he draws with the ultimate details.
