Jean Michel Basquiat through Nicholas Taylor

St Martins Lane, London,  announces a photographic exhibition Jean-Michel Basquiat through Nicholas Taylor from 5th October – 1st November 2009.

Paying homage to the artist from a candid new perspective, the collection of photographs magnify a remarkable creative relationship between Taylor and Basquiat that emerged from experimental 1980s band GRAY consisting of Taylor, Basquiat, Michael Holman and Vincent Gallo, declared at the time by Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine as ‘possibly the best band on the planet’. Capturing the spirit of the late 70s and early 80s downtown NYC art scene, Front Room will house a unique collection of photographs shot by both Taylor and Basquiat with images from the Mudd club and GRAY performing at various venues in down town NYC.

Ray Ceasar solo show at Art London

Richard Goodall Gallery dedicated the whole of its space at Art London to a solo show of Ray Cesar’s work.

On display are the final pieces of his earlier editions, his recent work, and one off pieces created especially for Art London 2009. The pieces transport us to the weird and wonderful world inhabited by Caesar’s impossible creations – intricate and engrossing, disturbing yet beautiful. Although there are many collectors of his work in London, this is the first time such a group has been exhibited in the capital.

Jeff Koons in Covent Garden, London

To celebrate the opening of Tate Modern’s major autumn exhibition Pop Life: Art in a Material World, a giant 53 foot (16 metre) helium balloon by Jeff Koons has been unveiled today at Covent Garden in London. It is the first time that Koons’s Rabbit balloon has been shown in the UK .

Jeff Koons created the large-scale silver balloon for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2007 in New York. He modelled it on his iconic metre-high stainless steel sculpture Rabbit 1986. The silver rabbit was floated down the streets of Broadway through the crowds to celebrate the occasion. Both the original sculpture and a film of the balloon in Macy’s Day Parade are included in Pop Life: Art in a Material World.

Rabbit is on display in the South Hall, Market Building, Covent Garden, London.

Pop Life: Art in a Material World  is on display at Tate Modern from 1 October – 17 January 2010.

Highwayman Stencil – London

With the help of a friend NoLionsInEngland we decided to see a closer version of the Highwayman stencil that appeared on the roof of the Great Western Studios complex near Westbourne Park.  Banksy or not Banksy, the mystery still remains, but the placement is spot on.

Situated  between the A40 London artery and the main rail line into Paddington although visible far away it is almost impossible to capture with a camera without a couple of risks…

So armed with a ladder, we had some views over the railway
