Paris: Bom.K – Effets Secondaires

Bom.K - Effets Secondaires

Four years after his last solo show in Paris (covered), graffiti artist Bom.K is returning to Paris for a solo show entitled Effects Secondaires (Side Effects) at Galerie Itinerrance opening on April 21st. The title of the exhibition refers to the sensations we managed to grasp from an artwork after enjoying the technique and subject. In addition, it also refers to one of the works in wood bearing the same name on the subject of overconsumption and the exhaustion of natural resources.

Through the extreme precision of the spraycan, Bom.K invites the viewer into his mystical world of hybrid creatures. The show also presents artworks and installations dealing with ‘Flesh and Harmony’, a favourite theme of the French artist featuring distorted corpses and figures, a ‘Guetto Clowns’ series, as well as subjects including the wish for ecological and political awareness.

Paris: Levalet – ‘Nobodies’ solo show

After five years of touring France and abroad with his in-situ characters,  French street artist Levalet is presenting a new solo show in Paris at Galerie  BRUGIER-RIGAIL entitled ‘Nobodies’.
The exhibition plays on identity and judgement. Even though « you can’t judge a book by its cover », normative orders of promotion, advertising and institutions influence our dress codes.

A series a faceless portraits in period costume with mirrors  invite the spectators to project their own real-life experiences, emotions and culture. Nobodies clothes and the absence of visible bodies are an open window on history, sometimes universal, sometimes specific.

Levalet revisits art history where the body was omnipresent and echoes the dehumanization phenomenon which has been developed with social media and technology.

Paris: Cleon Peterson ‘ Victory’ @ Galerie du Jour

Cleon Peterson - Victory

American artist  Cleon Peterson  presents his first solo show at Agnés B’s Galerie du Jour in Paris. Entitled VICTORY, the new body of work features sculptures and paintings with his instantly recognizable black and white characters entangled in vicious cycles of violence. With a fascination for violence, brutality and power, the artist shares a reality he experienced and still observes within the current socio-political situation in the world.

He further explains – “This show explores the hedonistic triumphs of those who recognize themselves as victorious in the unfolding mirror of history. Their right to pleasure hinges on their projection of pain onto the unvictorious other. This often expresses itself in pleasure derived from the misfortune of the defeated. As the winners display their hubris and take their trophies the losers are left insignicant and marginalized. VICTORY explores one mans victory over another, what that victory looks like and the result that victory has on the losers.”
