After completing his walls for the Paris Nuit Blanche (Covered here), Portugese artist Vhils just opened a new solo show ‘Vestiges‘ at Magda Danyz gallery. Engraving portraits and abstract patterns on cork, metal, wood and paper, Vhils continue to explore the city and its habitants’memory.

We popped by the studio of Parisian artist Pimax as he prepares for his upcoming group show ‘GOLDO Expo’ at Galerie Sakura.
The studio space which used to store graves is surrounded by giant spraycans, a lifesize dummy policeman, as well as melting sculptures and toys, king kong sculptures with rubicube twin towers.
Addicted to the 80’s Japanese manga TV series Goldorak, Pimax created his signature icon ‘Goldofuck’, a figurine portrayed in every possible situation. From stencils, paintings to resine casts, Pimax experiments with multiple supports.
Pimax also enjoys reinterpreting objects from the pop and manga culture into colourful melting sculptures. His ‘Impressionourf’ painting series is a tribute to the Impressionnism movement with his own twist.

Fondation Louis Vuitton, the philanthropic wing of luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, is opening a 41,441-square-foot art museum in Paris on 27 October to share its cultural values with the general public.
The new glass building was designed by the architect Frank Gehry for more than $130 million, and is adjacent to the Jardin d’Acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne of the 16th arrondissement of Paris.
The building will be showing a collection combining works owned by LVMH and his Chairman Bernard Arnault including John Giorno ‘Dial a Poem’ Phones, Bertrand Lavier neon installation, Gerhard Richter paintings. It will also act as a showcase for temporary exhibitions and performances by contemporary artists.
For site-specific installations, the foundation commissioned works by Ellsworth Kelly, Olafur Eliasson, Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, Sarah Morris, Taryn Simon, Cerith Wyn Evans and Adrián Villar Rojas.
Kelly made a curtain, Spectrum VIII (2014), consisting of 12 coloured strips, for the building’s auditorium. Eliasson created Inside the Horizon (2014), made up of 43 prism-shaped columns that are illuminated from the inside and placed along a walkway. Villar Rojas created a water tank containing found objects, discarded sneakers and plants.
Prior to the official public opening, the museum was also celebrated with musical performers during the special inaugural weekend.
While the museum has been funded by LVMH and bears the name (and logo) of its flagship brand, Louis Vuitton, it will pass into the hands of the city’s government after 55 years.

The 41 Edition of the French International Art Fair (FIAC) started with a bit of scandal. The ‘Christmas Tree‘ by Paul McCarthy on Place Vendome which was supposed to officially launch the FIAC was destroyed before the opening by vandals as it looked too much like a butt plug.

While French Culture Minister Fleur Pellerin and French Prime Minister Manuel Valls opened the Fair, they bumped into former escort girl turned muse Zahia Dehar for Pierre & Gilles (Galerie Daniel Templon).
Berlin-based neugerriemschneider was showing sculptures by Olafur Eliasson including ‘The new planet’, an oloid sculpture made from painted glass and aluminium and halogen. On the Gagosian booth visitors could see a series of sculptures by John Chamberlain.
Many artists were also on site during the VIP opening including UK artists like Tracey Emin, Gilbert & George (at Thaddaeus Roppac), French artist Orlan or NY based Ugo Rondinone (for Glastone Gallery).
Artist Kirsten Pieroth created a brick wall for Galeria Franco Noero, while a marble gas mask by Ai Weiwei was on view at Galeria Continua, and Yayoi Kusuma polka dots sculptures were displayed at David Zwirner gallery and Victoria Miro.
New York’s Nahmad Contemporary and Helly Nahmad Gallery were showing a $20 million oil-on-canvas Picasso from 1972, as well as a drawing by Basquiat priced at $2.4 million. Two more works by Basquiat “Made in Japan”were reunited since a very long time for an undisclosed price.
Hauser & Wirth was showing portraits from actress Isabelle Huppet by artist Roni Horn, while French dealer Yvon Lambert was featuring a neon installation by Mounir Fatmi for his last FIAC before closing his gallery.
