Milan: The Art of Banksy – A Visual Protest

Various exhibitions of Banksy’s work have taken place in art galleries, but until now no public museum has ever given the artist a solo exhibition.

The Italian culture museum in Milan, MUDEC – Museo delle Culture – is presenting for the first time a solo exhibition of elusive artist Banksy. The unauthorised retrospective titled ‘ The Art of Banksy. A visual protest”, curated by Gianni Mercurio, unites under one roof more than 70 works, including paintings, sculptures and prints by the artist, and accompanied by objects, photographs and video. For the first time a public institution takes a retrospective look at the work, socio-political context and philosophy of Banksy.

Stay tuned for further updates and behind the scenes access.

Reminiscent of the roaring 1920’s where artists were heavily influenced by Diaghilev & the Ballets Russes and vice versa, Street Art is now taking a growing place in Contemporary ballets. New York collective Faile and French artist JR (see here) collaborated with the New York City Ballets on numerous occasions.

In an unprecedented world premiere, ballet and guerrilla “street art” collide as US most sought after choreographer Justin Peck and visual artist Shepard Fairey join forces for Heatscape with the Miami City Ballet, an entirely new exploration of movement, music, costuming and art design. The back drop features Obey Giant’s iconography with a mandala and signature colours red / white/ black colours.
