Malaga: Remed & Okuda at MAUS 2015

For the second edition of the MAUS festival in Malaga (Malaga Arte Urbane en el Soho) curated by Fer Francés, many international artists have been invited to paint in the Soho district and along the Guadalmedina river.
Remed and Okuda painted a 30 meters high Venus on the facade of the Hotel Bahia Malaga, mixing their signature colourful style.

The mural is entitled ‘La Danse de Venus et du Marin’.

Along the river each of the artists also created further artworks, both typographic as well as figurative.

London: Batman – Arkham Knight ‘Cape and Cowl’ Exhibition

WB Games UK has teamed up with Moniker Projects to invite twenty of the most exciting contemporary artists and media celebrities to produce the UK edition of Batman: Arkham Knight ‘Cape and Cowl’ Exhibition.

The artworks stand within dimly lit Victorian railway arches, casting a procession of silhouetted Batman shadows onto the bare-brick walls. The occasional rumble of overhead trains resonate over the ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ sound track, which together with the backdrop of the ‘Holding Cells’ set captures the atmospheric Gotham City aesthetic.

Mondays preview was attended by artists, celebrities and press. Guests experienced the twenty diverse approaches to re-designing the iconic Batman ‘Cape and Cowl’ within a Gotham City immersive setting.

The exhibition is now open to the public and continues until Sunday 28th June and features the creations of artists’ Nancy Fouts, Lauren Baker, Hayden Kays, Inkie, Pam Glew, INSA, The Connor Brothers, Zeus, Matt Small, Jon Burgerman, CASE, CRASH, Cyclops, Kid Acne, Logan Hicks and Pure Evil and media celebrities Jonathan Ross, Noel Clarke, Eliza Doolittle and Jodie Kidd.

Curated & produced by Moniker Projects Frankie Shea & Lindsay Edmunds, the exhibition is a rare opportunity to see these works on display together and to witness the exceptionally inspired approaches to what is a comic book, film and video game phenomenon.

Brusk - Ad vitam Eternam

Member of the Da Mental Vaporz crew , multidisciplinary artist Brusk is one of the leading figures of Street Art in France, with mastering techniques in graffiti , but also lightgraff, sculpture, installation and 3D animation. For his first Parisian show ‘AD VITAM ETERNAM?‘ at Galerie Itinerrance, Brusk concentrated more than twenty years of exceptional practice on a series of paintings and sculptures. All his imagery is there: ripped icons, symbols of polluted consumerism, children drawings made out of acid colors, ironic references to the masters. Magritte’s ‘Red Model’ is revisited with Nike shoes, Rodin’s ‘Thinker’ is melting away.

Brusk - Ad vitam Eternam

The artist trademark rainbow dripping technique creates volume and lighting effects that evolve in an impressive 3^rd dimension. A sculpture of a real size baby elephant holding a spraycan defies gravity leaving his footprints on the ceiling and walls. A shining and melting bleeding heart sculpture is made of two kissing skulls, symbol of love until death.
‘AD VITAM ETERNAM?’ questions the place of humanity in its urban environment and invites the viewer to reflect on the future of the living and its relationship with death.

Many artists like Seth, Legz , Choq and members of the DMV crew (Jaw, Kan, Sowat) also came in force to celebrate the opening.

London: Masters of Urban Art @ Magda Danysz

Following her success in Paris and Shangai, French gallerist Magda Danysz recently launched a pop-up gallery space in London called the London Project for a duration of 100 days (covered here).

While the lower ground floor is dedicated to in-situ installations by international artists and evolving across the 100 days, the first floor is currently hosting an exhibition entitled The Masters of Urban Art.

Participating artists include: Banksy, Blek Le Rat, Futura, Jef Aerosol, JonOne, L’Atlas, Obey, Pure Evil, Remi Rough (pictured), Space Invader, Sten & Lex, West and Yz.

London: Julian Opie – Alan Cristea Gallery

The Alan Cristea Gallery in London is currently showing new editions by Julian Opie alongside prints and animations, produced in a variety of media.

Inspired by different views of the town and countryside, the London series present us with observations of the everyday life: figures of walking in the rain, tourists on the Southbank, passers-by at school gates and busy crowds of workers descending on the city.

The series, French Landscapes (2013), based on photos taken by the artist in France at different times of the day in different weather conditions, present us with revisited versions of Hiroshige’s nineteenth-century woodblocks of Japanese landscapes using lenticular or computer technology.

For the first time, Opie reveals a new series of metal wall hangings, Nature 1. (2015), depicting boats, sheep, carp and pebbles which have been cut from sheet aluminium.

Running until the 18th July, the exhibition, displayed across the two spaces of the gallery also feature small sculptures, metal silhouettes, screenprints and lenticulars, dating from 2012 – 2015.
