Word to Mother - Too blessed to be stressed

Stolenspace is celebrating a duo show this week with UK based artist Word To Mother ‘Too Blessed To Be Stressed’ and Brooklyn based artist Beau Stanton ‘Tenebras Lux’.
‘Too Blessed to Be Stressed’ presents a selection of multi-layered paintings on wood and antique paper featuring WTM’s bespoke iconography and positive word play with contemplative figures, cartoon references and London architectural landscapes.

“I wanted to express a positivity and appreciation for everything we have, rather than comparing ourselves and our lives to anyone else’s. The glorification of instant celebrity status, vacuous reality television and narcissistic Instagram accounts are contributing to an ever growing Comparison-Culture in which people are more concerned with what they don’t have than what they have already been blessed with.”

In the Gallery 2,  former apprentice for Pop Iconoclast Ron English, Beau Stanton has created a  new body of work inspired by the imagery and techniques found in sacred spaces: stained glass windows, elaborate oil paintings, and ornamented sacred objects using medieval techniques alongside contemporary digital media.  Cleverly manipulating light and shadow, the finished artworks result in vividly illuminated images appearing like religious icons.

Faith47 - Acqua Regalia

In parallel to the upcoming Moniker Art Fair  a solo show ‘Aqua Regalia‘ by South African artist Faith47 just opened at the Old Truman Brewery in London.  Juxtapozing religious iconography and sacred geometry with everyday found objects, her artworks illustrate pictorial representations of incarnated divinity from wildlife to female figures.

Studio Visit: 100TAUR (Toulouse)

100TAUR - Studio Visit

Following his group shows in the US and recent installation at the Toulouse Museum (FR), we visited the cabinet of curiosities of Low Brow French artist 100taur as he prepares for his upcoming solo show ‘Monsters in my closet’ at the Artoyz gallery in Paris.

100taur is a multidisciplinary artist, whose creativity expands from graffiti, paintings, drawings, engraving to sculpture, installations and taxidermy. His sources of inspiration come from Greek mythology, hybrid creatures like Chiron, known for his kindness, knowledge and skills with medicine, but also Japanese culture and sci-fi and horror films. Passionate by the natural world, 100taur also studies and breeds insects that he draws with the ultimate details.

100taur’s fantastic world is full of happy monsters, multi-eyed slugs and hybrid creatures that seems to be floating and dancing within an oniric universe, while some pop classics like Sponge Bob are  reinterpreted with his own personal touch.

Swoon - Nuit Blanche Paris 14

For the last instalment of our Nuit Blanche  coverage  in Paris dedicated to Street Art, Swoon covered the walls of former Massena train station. The installation refers to the Motherhood theme, and her intricate lace paper cut-outs highlight the fragility and beauty of life.

French artist L’Atlas adorns the walls with his signature geometric typography, while American artist Mark Jenkins put his tape figures in surprising locations and situations throughout the city: a girl is dangling her head on a fishing line from a balcony, a hooded man seems locked to the gate of a building, much to the awkward looks from the residents.

French stencil artist Yz painted a large floral mural using only natural material like wood, paper, zinc and black ink.
