Paris: La Tour 13

Tour Paris 13

Over looking the Seine ,  La Tour Paris 13   is a project curated by Mehdi Ben Cheikh from Galerie Itinerrance. During a year the entire building was painted by 100 international street and graffiti artists, each leaving their mark with murals and installations within the 36 apartments over 9 floors and cellars.

Opening to the public for a month from 1  October, the building is due to be demolished in November, making it the largest temporary street art exhibition in France. To celebrate the upcoming launch a giant Keith Haring banner has also been erected along the building.

London: Dan Baldwin – Fragile

Dan Baldwin - Fragile

British artist Dan Baldwin just opened a new solo show titled “Fragile” at Gallery 8 in London, exploring the concepts of mortality and beauty. The theme of fragility has long been associated with Baldwin’s work, not only in its commentary upon the temporality of life but also in the delicate materials he uses. Encompassing ceramics, silkscreen prints, resin, acrylics, spray paint and found objects, the artist’s mixed media compositions are crafted with precision, resulting in complex and intricate pieces.

To coincide with the exhibition, CCA Galleries (publisher of Dan Baldwin’s limited edition silkscreen prints) are launching “Dan Baldwin: 23 Years”. The book is a visual retrospective of the artist’s career from art school, through the struggle to become a full-time artist, to his current international career.

London: Hand to Earth at Scream

Scream - Hand to Earth

Scream and British fashion designer Matthew Williamson are presenting a two-person exhibition Hand to Earth featuring Caroline Jane Harris (UK) and Shane McAdams (USA). Both artists experiment with unusual mediums – paper, ball-point pen ink, resin – taking nature and landscapes as a starting point but with very different results.

Shortlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2012, Caroline Jane Harris explores the complexity of nature by creating intricate symmetrical patterns through a labour-intensive paper-cutting technique.  In contrast, Brooklyn-based painter Shane McAdams  creates his landscapes using layers of ball-point pen ink, oil and resin. Matthew Williamson was first inspired by McAdams’ work for his 2013 Summer Collection. And for his subsequent autumn collection Williamson presents a more organic, fractal pattern, which echoes Harris’s layered paper pieces.
