Toulouse (FR): Memoire Industrielle Hors Serie 3.0 – JOB

Memoire Industrielle 3.0

Back in 2011, French graffiti writers from Toulouse, namely Dark, Dspri, Keyler, Mikoz, Spazm, Spot and Xerou who are sharing the same passion for abandoned spaces, decided to create a touring exhibition called Memoire Industrielle. Using found objects from various industrial sites across France gathered through the different stages of the project, artists have reconstructed a large scale modelling version of an abandoned factory.

For the 8th edition of this touring exhibition, Memoire Industrielle has taken over the former JOB paper factory (famously illustrated by A. Mucha during the Art Nouveau period for its cigarette paper).  The show also features artworks and a series of prints on original papers issued from the JOB factory with two special guests: Korail and Dran.

Miaz Brothers - Dematerialized

Italian contemporary painters Miaz Brothers debuted their UK solo exhibition at Lazarides Rathbone titled Dematerialized: A New Contemporary Vision.

The show features a selection of large portrait paintings from their Antimatter series, utilizing the layering of spraypaint to create a special blurry effect. Looking close, the paintings look abstract, but from a distance, portraits are revealed. A selection of sculptures are also on display.

London: Miss Van & Olek @ Stolenspace

Miss Van & Olek - Stolenspace

StolenSpace gallery  just opened a double exhibition by leading female street artists, Miss Van and Olek. Despite having worked on public installations and group shows across the globe, it is the first time they produce a two-person show together. Based on their strong friendship and artistic sisterhood, both artists are showing their mutual appreciation for each other work .

Miss Van new body of work titled Glamorous Darkness maintain the signature aesthetic of her ‘poupées’ (dolls) within a dreamlike landscape and colours. Adorned with masquerade, animal-like masks her sensual and erotic female characters evolve and interact with each other.

In a tribute, Olek has recreated several of Miss Van’s favourite paintings in crochet form with intricate details, from the masks, corsets, wigs, hats to lips and nails and is displaying these artworks as photographic representations. Her exhibition title, Let’s not get caught, let’s keep going, borrows itself from a Thelma and Louise film quote which reminds the artist of her friendship with Miss Van. Along with these new works, Olek has taken over the gallery space and covered the floor to ceiling in her signature crochet.
