Streets: Paris Nuit Blanche 2014 – Part 2

Vhils - Nuit Blanche Paris 14

As we continue wandering through the streets of Paris for the Nuit Blanche (covered here) we saw the new mural from Portugese artist Vhils at the Children Hospital Necker.

As they were adding the finishing touches in the Halle Freyssinet, we bumped into French artist Jef Aerosol who invited some artists friends including Brusk, Jean Faucheur, Dan 23, STF Moscato, Monkey Bird, Mademoiselle Maurice, Rouge.

Streets: Paris Nuit Blanche 2014 – Part 1

Tristan Eaton - Nuit Blanche Paris 2014

While usually artworks during the Nuit Blanche only last one night, this year selected artists have been invited to create long term works. We caught up with some of them as they prepare for the big night.  Large scale murals are being painted  throughout the 13th District like Borondo (covered here). ‘THE REVOLUTION WILL BE TRIVIALIZED’ by Tristan Eaton is a tongue in cheek play on the famous Gil Scott Heron quote: ‘The revolution will not be televised’. “In a time when protests are becoming the norm from Ferguson to Hong Kong and beyond, it’s easy to see how civil unrest is often co-opted, undermined or diluted by the opportunistic.”

Spanish art activist SpY ( which we saw at Nuart earlier) is creating a large scale slogan in UV light “I’M NOT A REAL ARTIST”.

Paris Streets: Invader ‘Picasso’

Space Invader - Picasso

During the summer Space Invader put up a new piece featuring a large pixelated portrait of Pablo Picasso. As always, placement is key, and it can be seen close to the Musee Picasso in Paris.

The artist’s instagram account also features the piece being created.

London: Reka / Twoone @ StolenSpace

Reka - Stolenspace

StolenSpace Gallery is opening the new season in London with two concurrent solo shows from Australian artists based in Berlin: Reka’s “Trip the Light” and Two One’s “The Hunted Hunter’s Head.

Reka’s new body of work is inspired by his mother who was a ballerina. His brushstrokes reflect the graceful movements of a female dancer though a monochrome palette. Referenced in John Milton’s 1645 poem L’Allegro, to “trip the light fantastic” alludes to those who dance without inhibition.

In parallel Reka has given a new life to disused rusted spray cans found throughout his adventures and repurposed them into new works of art.

Japanese born Hiroyasu Tsuri aka Two One emigrated to Australia before relocating recently to Berlin. Continuing his ongoing series that he calls “Psychological Portrait”, Two One uses patterns and human-animal hybrids portraits to show more of the inner character and personality.
